One. Two. Three. Four. Five. Six. Seven.

Y-Weave Baskets- Kirby loves to pull down her toy box (the larger one) to where all of the toys fall into her lap & dig through to pick out what she wants. These are adorable & silicone so they don't hurt if when she pulls it right down onto her head. We use the smaller one to stack our favorite books in beside our reading bean bag.
Cuisinart Food Processor- You can read about how I make my organic baby food here & this is my main piece. I prefer a regular large food processor to the baby bullet because I like to make my food in bulk so that I don't have to make it as often.
Playtex Sippies- Love, love, love. Seriously we buy the cutesy & festive ones all of the time & they leak after one wash. These bad boys have never leaked on us, unless we don't screw them on properly. Added bonus, they come in a pack of two for a great price...score.
Motorola Video Monitor- This is another thing I wish I would have had since the beginning. We purchased the regular audio only baby monitor. Never again, I constantly had to get up & check on her, especially when she started flipping to her belly. So we finally ordered this one & it has been great! You can seriously see her breathing through the monitor.
Cart Cover- Once again I have become a germ freak & this thing saves me from using a million Johnson's cleansing wipes, even though half the time I still wipe it down first. Plus they make the million pictures you snap of your little babe in the cart that much cuter.
Bibs- Love these printed bibs. They save you from having 15 bibs in the laundry by the end of the week. Just wipe them down, let them dry & done. Lets face it, the adorable prints are what drew me to them in the first place.
Silicone Fresh Food Freezer Treys- These seriously make my life a million times easier when popping out my fresh food portions. The plastic ice treys are a joke, they just end up cracking when I try & jigsaw pop out the food portions. Read about how I use these in my organic baby food making adventures here.

Six months.
Clothing size 9 months! Baby got back!
{Diaper size}
Still nursing on demand, I have been so blessed to be able to stay home with this sweet baby & our nursing relationship has been amazing after climbing the initial hurdles which you can read about here. She has been doing really well with solids.

You can read more about how I make her homemade organic baby food here. These are the foods that I have made so far.

Let's just say this, when I wake up in the morning I always ask Kirby how her night was & her reply..."I nursed fine, thank you. How about yours momma?" It really fluctuates, sometimes every 3-4 hours sometimes every 2. However she is in bed by 7 every night & isn't up for the day until 7.
{Favorite words/sounds}
Still same baba & booboo & saying mama when she is upset & wants me to come get her. She isn't saying it on command quite yet.
{Favorite toy}
She still loves her jumparoo & especially the little plastic beads that you move around on the metal wires.
She loves loves loves music & always has, it seems to calm her. Bath time is still a favorite for this little fish & more bath toys are definitely on her Christmas list, check out Kirby's first Christmas gift guide here. I finally figured out that her bath tub has two ends to it & she can actually sit up on one end. A new bath seat is on our Christmas list as well.

 Loves to be sitting up, if you lay her down on your lap, she immediately tries to pull herself up into a sitting position. She could blow bubbles for hours.

She is obsessed with cups & water bottles, pretty much anything that looks like you can take a drink from it. Digging through her toy box & picking out what she wants is probably her top favorite thing right now.
{Not so much}
Diaper changes, she wants to do anything but; including grabbing anything in site except what I put in her hand as a distraction.
Kirby Sue of course, & now it has turned into Sue Sue. It cracks me up that everyone calls her by those names & it isn't even close to her actual name {Kirby Deneen Rainey}.
{Signature moves}
She does this superman move on her belly, like she thinks she is going to magically crawl somewhere, lazy Sue is what we say about that.
Definitely going through another rough patch of teething for sure, but still no sign of a toofer quite yet! She has figured out her feet & loves them.

Starting to sit up for longer periods of time & attempting to balance herself more. We pile pillows around her & she really enjoys playing independently with her toys for longer periods of time now that she is able to sit up. Grabs EVERYTHING in sight & tries to eat it, even her books now when we are reading to her. She has finally mastered rolling from back to belly however, she has oddly not mastered the belly to back motion. We went through a phase where she would flip to her tummy in bed & cry & scream until I flipped her back & we would go through that at least 3 times a night before she finally put herself to sleep for the night. Then she finally figured out that she loved sleeping on her tummy & it has stayed that way.
Target is a given, but we usually go in the Moby Wrap & we have officially graduated to the cart, she loves it. So Target trips have become much more frequent...score. I swear this store has become a get away for us, pure entertainment.
We have really been enjoying the cold weather. Tis' the season to get cozy & festive!
We went to the Christmas Stroll with Kirby's Auntie Jaclynn (my longest friend) down at the square & picked up a few goodies, Kirby absolutely loved it.
Brian has been living in California without us for the past two months until he was able to transfer back to Texas, you can read more about our story here. He decided to come home a day early & surprise us! I was so excited to see him & for him to see his now 6 month old that this is the only picture I managed to capture.
We spent the first weekend together in 2 months & cherished every moment of our time together. We finally got a family picture.

Here is this little video I captured of fussy pants Rainey asking her mama to come & pick her up. I couldn't love her more.

Month Five Favorites

Monday, November 19, 2012

One. Two. Three. Four. Five. Six.

Hyland's Teething Tablets- They are all natural & homeopathic. Anyone that knows me personally knows that I HATE medicine & am all for anything natural. They dissolve right under the tongue, she actually enjoys them & they give her relief.
Carters Long Sleeve Onesies- Love these, now that it is getting cooler they are great as an extra layer or on their own. They are much thicker & softer than the Gerber brand. I made the mistake of purchasing the Gerber ones once, never again. Not only are the sizes completely off (they run super small) but the material is a joke.
Play Matt- She loves this thing & still does. She actually has started using it more this month than she has in the past months. She loves the frog toy & once she figured out that she could kick the piano & it would play music, she went crazy! She is not the best at independent play, but this she will play with for at least 15 minutes.
Bath- Seriously wish I had registered for this one from the start. We bought the big plastic one, which is great to set on the counter & bathe when they are new new. However, it just seems so uncomfortable, it has a huge plastic hump in the middle & I just can't seem to get her in the right spot. This mesh one is super comfy & I think would work for a newborn too. We just set it in the bathtub & fill the water right around it. I can tell she enjoys this one a lot more.
The Lamaze Firefly- Seriously so much going on in one little toy, it's actually bigger than it looks too! Hands down her new favorite car seat friend. She loves to chew on the little rings at the bottom & all of the different parts & bright colors keep this wild baby entertained during a car ride.
Silicone Fresh Food Storage cups- These are awesome, we have just started experimenting with a few fresh foods. I haven't started making them in bulk quite yet, so these are perfect for experimenting with new foods & either freezing them or keeping them refrigerated. See how I make my organic baby food here.

5 months

Five months.
Won't know all stats until our 6 month appointment, but she is 18lbs 14 ounces.
{Diaper size}
So I decided to start making her solids at 5.5 months. More details on how I make my own organic baby food here. We first tried pears & she wasn't having it (I partially think it was because it is the only other thing she has tasted besides breast milk). We went to bananas next & they were a definite hit! (her first banana poop scared the shit out of me, the fibres in the bananas look like tiny worms)! Then we tried apples on their own & she was not a fan, but then mixed it with oatmeal & breast milk & we had another winner. The final thing we tried this month was sweet potatoes & she wasn't a fan, I am hoping that she is just getting used to textures & a picky eater is not the case.

Ever since we have come back form California, read more details on that story in my about me section here, she has been up every 3-4 hours again, sometimes every 2. She sleeps in her crib (which she has since three months, before then we co slept to make breastfeeding easier) on her back with her hands behind her neck just like her daddy.

And sometimes likes to take a nap with her Uncle Luke. And this happened to be in the outfit that he bought her. Swoon.

{Favorite words/sounds}
She says mummm mumm when she is tired or fussing, so I think she will be saying mama soon. She puts syllables together like baba & boo boo so far, she is such a jabber jaws.
{Favorite toy}
She loves this butterfly it has so many neat attachments & colors, she loves to chew on the rings that are attached to the bottom.
Cups & my iPhone. If there is a cup anywhere in sight she wants to drink from it, she loves to take sips of my water, she knows exactly what to do & goes straight for a drink. She doesn't watch TV, but sometimes we play short clips of Yo Gabba Gabba on YouTube & she loves it!

Loves being a nakey baby & splashing & kicking & reading during bath time.

She loves to squeeze you tight & give you a hug when you pick her up, she hugs everyone! Frozen baby washrags to chew on & soothe her gums are a top favorite right now.
{Not so much}
Not a fan of this teething business, but over all a happy baby & is getting better with car rides. My best girl friend & I joke because Kirby is so chill & relaxed & we call her son a drama king. I am sure our next kid will be bat shit crazy!
Kirby Sue is here to stay & we sometimes shorten it to Sue Sue, Baby Sue or Sue Baby.
{Signature moves}
She holds her hands up & squeezes them together over & over if she wants something or likes what you are doing, it is hilarious & something that my mom said I used to do when I was a baby, they used to say I was riding my motorcycle. She also has figured out this new thing where she sucks air in & out of her nose like she is made & it looks a little something like this.
She has rolled a couple of times, but has yet to master that skill. Has started to pull up to standing really well using our hands. Can sit for about 30-45 seconds on her own.

Pretty sure she has started the teething process, she has been unusually fussy & is constantly trying to bite everything including my shoulder!
Being outside is one of her most favorite adventures, she loves to look all around & discover her surroundings.

Going places (especially the grocery store) to people watch in her Moby Wrap is always the ticket to a happy baby.

I think her most favorite adventures consist of going to visit her boyfriend Caden or visa versa.

But it's a toss up between sitting out on the porch in the mornings & drinking coffee. This little wild woman cracks me up!

We caught her first belly laugh on video this month when Uncle Luke was pulling the tape measure out & letting it slide back into the holder really fast

Happy Halloween

Wednesday, October 31, 2012

I know that Kirby will not remember any of her first Holidays, do I care? Nope. It doesn't stop me from making every holiday & the days leading up to it just as magical as the next. Call it practicing for when she does remember if you will.

We kicked of Halloween week with some delicious Halloween themed cupcakes. The bat cupcakes are made from chocolate fudge striped cookies, Red Hots & Hershey Kisses. The pumpkin cupcakes are carrot cake flavored with pumpkins painted in colored icing.

I decided to paint pumpkins this year, something that I have never done before. We have always been pumpkin carvers, which I fully plan on doing next year when Kirby can actually participate. However, I do think we will incorporate painted pumpkins as well from now on, they were so fun & turned out better than I expected.

Of course we dressed in a few festive outfits throughout the week.
Kirby had two costumes this year. This witch costume just sort of fell in our laps, I made the tutu for her pumpkin patch photo shoot & I happened to pick up the hat (cut it off of the hard headband & hot glued it to elastic) & socks at Old Navy & Target separately. So I decided to throw some purple in the tutu & do a solo costume shoot on Halloween Eve.

Seriously, I love her.

Per usual I had to sneak in a quick picture with my girl. Those baby blues, swoon.

Introducing Mr. & Mrs. Fred & Wilma Flinstone. [insert heart explosion here] I love them both more than words can describe & I can't wait to show these pictures to them when they are older. My best girlfriend (Rebecca) & I hand made the costumes together & they turned out too perfect for words.

Finally after our photo sesh it was time to pass out candy & pour a cold one.
Kirby got to do a little trick-or-treating herself.
She would have gladly eaten a million pieces if I would have let her, but she settled for the package instead.

 Happy Halloween! I couldn't ask for a better first Halloween with my girl & my heart is overwhelmed with excitement already just thinking about celebrating it next year with a toddler!

Festive Photo Sesh

Monday, October 29, 2012

Okay seriously, these pictures deserve a post of their own. What is more festive than a chubby baby pumpkin booty. Words can not describe how much I am in love with the way these photos turned out, even though she will probably hate me for them later. Sorry baby girl, but it was so worth it. I will help you do ridiculous photo shoots with your babies one day. You can count on that.

Baby got back.

Hope you enjoyed them as much as I did.

Month Four Favorites

Friday, October 19, 2012

Goodnight Moon- This one is a classic. It's short & sweet & a perfect story to finish off the night with your sweet babe, after a million kisses & I loves yous of course. Kirby loves listening to us read to her at night, she genuinely enjoys eating reading books.
Bumbo- I don't want to hear about the recalls. We are right next to her the entire time. She loves to sit outside on nice mornings with me in her bumbo while I drink my coffee. It's perfect for her right now while she can't sit on her own, but loves to be sitting up. She loves it. We love it. I would consider it a win.
   Jumparoo- Now I would consider this a favorite to the both of us. It cracked me up when I put her in it the first time & the natural bounciness would startle her. Only took a minute & she was in love. It is great to drag over to the bathroom while I am getting ready or just trying to get something done in general. I use our colorful links & add all kinds of extra toys to the sides, pure entertainment.
White Noise Machine- I wish I would have purchased this one sooner. We were using her portable white noise giraffe, & transferring it from the car seat to her room on the reg. I love that it lasts all night so I don't have to go in & turn it back on. It has all kinds of weird sounds like a horn...what? We use the rain sound option. It drowns out any extra noise & I swear it helps her sleep longer spans.
    Fresh Food Teether- These things are awesome. Seriously why didn't I invent this? She is obviously too young for fresh foods, buuuttt I made breast milk popsicles! I froze breast milk in ice treys & popped that sucker in there & BOOM takes care of a fussy baby every time.
Johnson's Hand & Face Wipes- Feel free to register for a million. These are great I wipe down everything with these. The baby, her toys she drops, cart name it I wipe it down. I have seriously become a germ freak since having her & these kill all the germs without the harsh chemicals. I always keep them on hand.
Giraffe Lovey- Gets thrown in the carseat with her everytime. It rattles & it's soft. She loves to chew on his ears. He just became one of our favorites, I would for sure reccomend a lovey of some kind to your little babe.

4 months

Thursday, October 18, 2012

Four months.
{Diaper size}
25 inches long, 16.5lbs, 77% height & 94% weight
Is now sleeping 8 hour time spans, meaning momma gets a to have a cold one in the evening again...BOOM. Still nursing to sleep, but if she stirs awake I can usually go in & turn her white noise giraffe & waterfall lights back on & she soothes herself back to sleep.
Still exclusively breast feeding, between our own discussions & with the pediatrician we have decided that we won't start solids until 6 months, when I will be making my own organic baby food, you can read about it here.

{Favorite words/sounds}
Still cooing away, almost belly laughing, not putting syllables together yet.
{Favorite toy}
Giraffe lovey
To be held in the sitting up position. Holding blankets & pulling them towards her mouth, her little pink giraffe lovey blanket is her favorite.

{Not so much}
Still hating car rides, what an odd child, most kids find it very soothing, this is where the Grumpus Rainey nickname comes from.

Kirby Sue it is, Sue is in absolutely zero part of her name, but we started calling her that & it seriously STUCK.
{Signature moves}
If someone holds her in the cradle position, she is going after their boobies ASAP (not a huge snuggler unless sleeping or nursing). She has started doing this thing where she deliberately looks away from us when we are trying to catch her attention no matter which way we turn her. I asked our pedi about it, because I am crazy & I thought it could possibly be a vision issue since she only does it when we hold her up close, but when we lay her down she looks right at us. Our pediatrician laughed (watching Kirby do it to her & said it was definitely a phase).
Has finally got her fingers figured out & loves them. Seems like a belly laugh will be coming soon, however for now it is a sucking in hiccup noise when she gets really excited about something. Starting to grab at toys that hang from the activity gym. Loves blowing bubbles/raspberries. Sitting up well in her bumbo.
Kirby had her shots this month, she really doesn't cry too much just a little fussy & then she's over it. After learning our lesson the first time (woke up from a nap with a fever & screaming, scared the shit out of me), we now be sure to complete a good 2 rounds of Tylenol, so her fever doesn't spike & make her miserable. Got her first case of pink eye this month right before my mom's wedding, but she did great with the eye drops & it cleared right up. We tried a bottle of breast milk for the first time this month, pretty positive we waited too long...she had no idea what the hell it was or what to do with it. We were all surprised including the pediatrician since she isn't around kids & doesn't go to any type of daycare. My mom got married this month & we all stayed in cabins for the weekend, it was a lot of fun to show her off to all of my family.

Made out first pair of baby legs...obsessed. I'll be sure & post a tutorial when I get a chance.

Rooted for Texas & Kirby won all of the money in football squares, like a boss.

Went on her first car date with her boyfriend Caden.

Had her first marg with her Granny.

Tasted a breast milk popsicle & man did she love it! (just froze breast milk in ice treys & stuck it in one of those mesh teethers).

We both discovered our love of the jumparoo, I love dragging it into the bedroom while I get ready, it's a real time saver.

& we finished our evenings off kicking back with a couple of books.
