15 Weeks 1 Day

14 Weeks

Monday, December 12, 2011

Week Fourteen(Dec. 11th-17th):

How far along? 14 Weeks
Total weight gain: I have managed to gain another few pounds I am at a 25 pound weight gain at the moment...sheesh.
Stretch Marks? Still the same ones, I am rubbing on Bio Oil every night & have been since day one...I really think it is all chalked up to my fast weight gain...no excuses.
Sleep: Still up throughout the night to pee & can't fall asleep either. I think I am driving poor Brian insane with my phone light on all night & the occasional nudges for him to stop snoring (I know...I suck).
Maternity Clothes: Still in my loose tops & jeggings, however I think I am going to transition into maternity soon.
Best moment this week: Tacky Christmas sweater party...lord knows I love any excuse to be ridiculously festive...can't wait to torture dress up our baby!
Miss Anything? Seasonal adult beverages anyone?
Food cravings: Okay seriously cinnamon cinnamon & more cinnamon..I know cinnamon regulates blood sugar so maybe my body is telling me something...it better be regulated because my glucose test is soon & I might flip my lid if I have gestational diabetes.
Anything making you queasy or sick: Pretty sure I eat anything & everything.
Gender Prediction: girl
Labor Signs: None yet
Symptoms: Luckily nothing too out of the ordinary. The sciatic nerve pain disappeared with the first trimester...really hoping it stays away.
Belly Button in or out? In
Wedding rings on or off? On
Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy!
Looking Forward to: Christmas of course!

Since I have no belly pictures this week I will leave you with these beauties that we made ourselves for a friends party this week.

13 Weeks

Sunday, December 4, 2011

Week Thirteen(Dec. 4th-10th):
How far along? 13 Weeks
Total weight gain: Still hanging out at 23lbs
Stretch Marks? Wouldn't you know in addition to my boobs my inner thighs are getting them too...fantastic!
Sleep: I am not exhausted anymore, however now I can't fall asleep & I am still up all night to use the restroom as well...but that has become the norm.
Maternity Clothes: Jeggings...leggings only work if I have a long shirt to cover my booty.
Best moment this week: We had our first growth scan this week at Dr. Shephard's office. Baby Rainey is growing right on track. Baby was movin' & groovin' on the ultrasound, however I have yet to feel anything. I have an anterior placenta (the placenta attached to my frontal wall rather than the back), therefore some of the baby's early kicks are cushioned & it will just take a bit longer before I start feeling anything.
Miss Anything?  Sleeping through the night, this waking up constantly to go to the bathroom is obnoxious!
Food cravings: I'm still loving my blueberry muffins & in addition to that I have been on a cinnamon cereal kick.
Anything making you queasy or sick: Nothing.
Gender Prediction: We had the technician take a guess & she is 95% positive that it is a girl...YES..I see festive bows & matching baby legs in out near future.
Labor Signs: None.
Symptoms: My breast are still growing & my weight gain is not as rapid as it was in the beginning.
Belly Button in or out? In
Wedding rings on or off? On
Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy!
Looking Forward to: The Holidays of course :)

Top left is feet & toes. Top Right is arms and hands. The bottom picture is my very favorite I keep it in my wallet & always find little excuses to make it more visible when I am purchasing anything so people will ask about it since I am not quite showing yet (lame? I know).

Nutrition Tips for your First Trimester

Saturday, December 3, 2011

I am not a nutritionist & all of the information I am providing is from my own personal research & should never substitute what is recommended by your doctor. Remember you should always consult with a doctor before starting any nutrition plan.

Snacks are great for your first trimester, eating little & often can really help with morning sickness. Vitamins & nutrients that are especially important in your first trimester in addition to your prenatals are...

Folates (the form of folic acid found in food):
  • make salads using baby spinach
  • steam some asparagus to have on hand to use with dips (roasted red pepper hummus is the shit)
  • oranges & cantaloupe
  • sliced wholemeal bread (which is also good to make some toast, when you can't keep anything else down)
Vitamin A; keeps you healthy & boosts your immune system to fight off infections
  • eggs & cheese are a good source of retinol, the form of Vitamin A found in animal foods.
  • Vitamin A is also found largely in carotenoids, which is the orange foods.
  • mangoes, peaches, papaya are all great to add to a smoothie or bowl of cereal, or even just to throw in your bag on the go.
  • carrots, butternut squash & sweet potatoes are great alone or thrown in a soup.
If you are having trouble with morning sickness, ginger is a fabulous remedy. The Vitamin A in those carrots could also be great in a carrot cake right? Yes, yes I did just do that.

Fitness Tips For Your First Trimester

Friday, December 2, 2011

It is safe to work out daily during pregnancy, but you should always get approval from your doctor before starting any fitness plan. After 20 weeks you should avoid doing exercises on your back. Make sure to intake the extra 300 calories per day required. Monitor your heart rate & exercise intensity. Exerting yourself moves blood to your muscles and skin and may move less to your uterus. If exercise is too strenuous, there is a risk that less oxygen will reach the baby. Per usual make sure you are stopping for frequent water breaks & ASK FOR MODIFICATIONS if needed.

Maintaining your fitness is so important, not only to you but to your new little roommate. If you're like me you just have the body type that gains weight like crazy. So I make sure & keep up with my weight gain by working out, I am a women's fitness boxing trainer but, I enjoy doing small quick workouts on my own, which is about all I have energy for these days.

There really aren't too many limitations during the first trimester. I am one of those overly cautious types who researches everything, so I refrained from any isolated ab exercises & jumping. I also purchased this heart rate monitor, which gives your heart rate range according to age & weight (which I pretty much have to change daily). It beeps to let you know when you are out of range, therefore while I am training I know to scale it back a little bit. I also take frequent water breaks to make sure that I do not overheat. If you weren't working out before your pregnancy, work into it. Now is not the time to try & lose weight or begin a rigorous workout plan.

I run a little bit throughout some of my workouts & with the girls that I train, however I prefer to incorporate different forms of cardio into my workouts. It was hard for me to get used to not being able to do intense workouts like I used to, however I found that short & smaller workouts are my new preference. Doing long drawn out workouts at a slow pace just seem never ending. Working out definitely helps with the pregnancy insomnia & my energy level throughout the days, I can feel a difference on days that I am not working out, or even just going on a walk.

Following are two mini workouts for your first trimester that you can do in 30 minutes or less. A majority of the exercises do not require equipment, however it gets difficult to do a lot of arm exercises without any sort of dumbbells etc. So if you don't have a particular piece of equipment please leave me a comment & I am more than happy to give you an alternative or direct you to a place where to find that piece at a low price. Also every single exercise can be modified according to your fitness level (i.e. push ups on your knees vs. hands & toes) so please don't hesitate to ask me for modifications. Without further ado here are my mini workouts. If you would like more please leave a comment letting me know what you liked or if you need more base level workouts & I will be sure to post more.

The Best Is Yet To Come

Tuesday, October 11, 2011

I was working out heavily at the time & have never had an issue with weight gain...until now. So it was odd to me that I had started to remain permanently bloated, especially since the last place I ever gain weight is in my stomach...I am more of a pear shape. Brian had mentioned how he thought that I might be pregnant & I was in denial. My only other symptoms that made me really start to wonder was severe breast tenderness (I'm a stomach sleeper & I could no longer sleep on my stomach).  I was also waking up quite often during the night, which is very unusual for me. Those who know me, know that I am a very heavy sleeper.

My mom had asked if Brian & I could check in on her dogs while she was out of town that weekend, so on the way over we decided we would go ahead & purchase a test. For some reason I really didn't think that second line was going to show up. You always hear that it may be faint & take a minute to show...oooh no not for me as soon as it was saturated that second pink line showed up bright & clear! I remember I walked out & Brian was sitting on the couch, he could tell by the look on my face what the results were before I even told him. I was shaky & teary eyed as he hugged me, "congratulations momma!" he said.

We went for a very long walk around my mom's neighborhood as we decided how/when we were going to share the news. Obviously this was a surprise, we had not planned to have a baby at this moment; however we were both very happy & excited to start a new chapter in our lives as a family.

The following day I called & scheduled our initial consultation and confirmation. Estimated arrival June 2012!

Love at First Punch

Monday, October 10, 2011

My roommates & I decided to try out this women's fitness class called Pink Gloves Boxing. The first evening that we show up I am of course in baggy sweats & an over-sized T-shirt, since it is all women right? Wrong, I walk in & the head trainer/owner happens to be male & easy on the eyes to boot. I don't remember an instant connection other than the physical attraction of course & I am not the best with hand eye coordination, so I know it wasn't my excellent boxing skills that had him impressed. The more classes I attended the more I really began to fall in love with the sport of boxing & this class especially. I had always been an active person, played soccer & ran track, however Brian really sparked a passion for fitness and nutrition in me that I had never experienced before.
So the classes I attended got more frequent and the workout clothes got tighter, needless to say a connection began to form between the two of us. Mind you, when I say the classes I attended got a little more frequent I mean I began to attend EVERY class that he held (three times a day). I guess I really just loved the class that much ;) I began to escalate through the levels of the class and became a trainer along side him. The turning point in our relationship involved a pool side BBQ & a beer shot gunning contest. Quite a turning point eh? To spare you the details lets just say a little liquid courage later and we decided on a date in the near future.
Brian & I began to spend every day together & with me being a student I had the flexibility to take a large part in the business with him. A few months later we decided to get a place together near the boxing studio, yes you read right a few months later. Hey when you know, you know I guess.

Our love for each other grew as I experienced a love that I had never known before. We have so much in common & our passion for fitness really sparked our relationship. I loved every bit of it, from our intense workouts together to the days where we just hiked to a spot to have our favorite lunch of Sushi & wine. Brian is one of the most intelligent & driven people that I know. He pushes me to be better everyday & the most important thing is that our love for each other continues to grow & we spend the rest of our lives making every day the happiest & most memorable as the one before it.

With that much love we couldn't help but create a little baby Rainey ASAP right? I know, I know we did everything backwards, blah, blah, blah. I wouldn't change it for the world every day that I wake up to Brian & our beautiful baby girl I know that whether our family began backwards, forwards, sideways or upside-down it was the right way for us & we cherish every minute of it.
